Subject: Championing Organizational Change

Recently, as you may have read from my internal report on organizational change, it is undeniable that the organization needs change. The kind of change this organization need is strategic change above all else. This is because the organization has tried to drive change in various areas but failed due to a lack of sound strategy in operations. This lack of strategy has perpetuated other issues such as performance gaps, technology change adaptations, and turnover. Other factors causing a need for change in strategic management also include laws, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and transformational changes arising from unprecedented issues in business. Hence, needing a change in strategic management. Strategic management refers to analyzing important decisions, coordinating and implementing them to facilitate good performance, and maintain a competitive advantage.

The organization’s stakeholders are imperative to championing strategic management change in the business. That is why the stakeholder map at the end of the memo is important to the change process. The detailed stakeholder map is critical because it guides the right stakeholders to involve in this particular change (Mtika et al., 2021). Many stakeholders in the business have a vested interest in its ultimate success and performance. These stakeholders encompass key executives of the business, shareholders, owners, employees, regulatory agencies, organization sponsors, and customers or individual end-users. These people will be important in providing ideas and prospective solutions for the problems plaguing the organization.

Each stakeholder in the map has an integral role in championing change. However, some are likely to have little interest in the change, more Power crucial to help champion and implement the change. The Keep Satisfied group of stakeholders have a strong influence on the strategic change initiative. However, they require to be updated as they can make or break change efforts. HR managers and customers are essential in organizational change and therefore need to be apprised to champion the change. Key players are the stakeholders with the most influence on the change and its general outcome. This group will require more energy and change in the change process because their role is to invest in the change’s eventual success equally. It is vital to keep the ‘minimal effort’ and ‘keep informed’ group of stakeholders in the loop because they also eventually determine the success of the change. Although they might have little influence on the change process, it is imperative to keep them satisfied as their approval plays into strategy through communication and engagement (Eriksson & Fundin, 2018). These stakeholders also stand to gain from the overall success of the implemented change. HR managers will get a reprise from high rates of turnover. The Board of Directors will have fewer issues with the law, and the entire external and internal body of stakeholders will benefit from better performance.

I would also recommend structural and cultural changes to the organization. This is because the organization has been taking performance hits for quite a while, and in addition to strategic change, cultural and structural change will be good for its long-term success. I would recommend a restructuring of employee and management teams. The restructuring should be able to accommodate small teams with a good grasp of their expectations. This will improve operations and ensure the company activities are managed more smoothly. I would also recommend a more engaging and communicative culture to enhance relations among employees, management, and other key players (Hansen, 2019; Tarara et al., 2019). This will enable better communication of company values, goals, and strategies. Resistances can also be approached more communicatively and engagingly to make toxic players understand the necessity of change.

Write a report (6-8 pages) that evaluates two emerging technologies according to UTAUT constructs to determine technology acceptance: biometric technology and wearable technology.

Introduction

Theory serves as a framework for the adoption of technology. There is a vast wealth of research on technology adoption, and this research is based on various theories. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) is one of the foundational models for technology adoption. The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) is a model (or theoretical framework) that suggests four key constructs (performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions) to determine technology acceptance. This acceptance of technology can be for a single user or organization-wide. UTAUT is often considered “TAM2” because of the addition of more precise constructs that can be used for measuring whether or not an emerging technology would be accepted on a personal or organization-wide basis.

For this assessment, you will submit a report (6–8 pages) on two emerging technologies and organize your response on the four UTAUT constructs to determine technology acceptance. The two emerging technologies will include:

Biometric technology.

Wearable technology.

For your report, you will analyze the challenges of implementing these new technologies with existing infrastructures and processes. You will also discuss how you would advocate for these technologies within an organization.

Preparation

You may choose to access the suggested resources in the Studies for this assessment.

Scenario

Imagine that you are a technical analyst at an organization of your choice (your current organization, another organization, or a fictitious organization). Your supervisor appreciated your initial report on blockchain and artificial intelligence technologies so much that she has assigned you to a group that will explore other emerging technologies for use and implementation within the organization. To begin, she has requested you produce a report that analyzes two additional emerging technologies for potential consideration within the organization. For this report, your supervisor is interested in both application and usability.

Your supervisor has asked you to analyze:

A biometric technology.

A wearable technology.

For each of these two technologies, your report should apply the four constructs of The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) and analyze the benefits and challenges of implementing these technologies within existing infrastructures and processes at the organization.

The technologies you evaluate and discuss in your report may be emerging or existing technologies. By examining technology acceptance through the use of the UTAUT model in a “real world” environment, researchers and practitioners can assess an individual’s intention to use a specific system, thus allowing for the identification of the key influences on acceptance in any given context. This information can be used to inform the development of an implementation plan for the new technology.

Requirements

Using the suggested Study Resources in this unit and other resources:

Conduct a research activity to select two emerging technologies (biometric, and wearable).

Submit a report (6–8 pages) that analyzes these technologies according to the four UTAUT constructs (these constructs may also have sub-categories based on gender, age, experience, and voluntariness of use):

Performance Expectancy: The performance of the technology itself.

Effort Expectancy: Ease of use, including setup and installation.

Social Influence: The degree to which an individual perceives that it’s important that others (e.g., supervisors, senior leaders) believe he or she should use or learn the new system.

Facilitating Conditions: The degree an individual believes that either (or both) an organizational and technical infrastructure exists to support the use of the system.

For each of the emerging technologies in your report, justify its implementation for your organization.

Consider factors such as cost, savings, impact on jobs, and effectiveness.

Discuss potential advantages and disadvantages of implementation.

Consider authentication, control, and access in your response.

Define the gaps between needs of new technology and current infrastructure and processes.

Provide requirements for new technology implementation, existing limitations, and needed changes to infrastructure and processes.

In your report, provide an introduction, main points, and an overall conclusion.

In addition to the suggested Study Resources in this unit, the following are excellent resources for finding and learning about emerging technologies:

The New York Times technology section.

Tech Republic.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Google Scholar.

Deliverable Format

You may choose to use the optional Emerging Technologies Report Template [DOCX]. Since you plan to share your report with your supervisor at your next one-to-one meeting, you will want it to be well-organized and readable. Your supervisor has requested that your report be 6–8 pages so that you have enough space to develop your ideas and provide some scholarly context. Your supervisor has also requested that the report include an introduction, main points, and an overall conclusion.

Communication: Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, respectful, and consistent with professional practice and the needs and expectations of senior IT leaders and other stakeholders. For this scenario, assume your supervisor expects original work, critical thinking, and scholarly sources. Your writing must be free of errors that detract from the overall message.

Report length: Minimum of 6–8 pages, not including the title and reference pages.

References: At least three scholarly resources. Include a reference page at the end of your report, so that your imaginary supervisor can locate more information about emerging technologies.

APA guidelines: Double-spaced paragraph formatting in the body of the paper. When appropriate, use APA-formatted headings. Resources and citations are formatted according to current APA style and format.

Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.

Evaluation

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies through corresponding scoring guide criteria:

Competency 2: Apply technology theories and models to inform the development of an implementation plan for new technology.

Justify the use and adoption of biometric technology with support for implementation within an organization.

Writing Question

Essay Prompt from the Syllabus
Write a formal 1000 Word APA paper focusing on the danger of the single story and children’s literature.
PROMPT:
Watch the TedTalk; The Danger of a Single Story and listen to the poignant and powerful words that Nigerian born author, Chimimanda Adichie (2009) stated about her personal experiences when faced with overt assumptions and racism. Discuss how unbiased literature, authentic storytelling, respectful representation, and true perspectives can provide a touchstone of truth to combat systemic racism. Connect your discussion with Adichie’s words. Launch Adichie’s words as both a foundation for your research and support for your evidence stated.
DETAILS:
Connect 5 APA formatted quotes spoken by Adichie (2009) with 5 APA formatted quotes derived from 5 different Academic Sources found inside our EDUC 121 Reader for a total of 10 APA formatted quotes inside your paper. Utilize ANY FIVE (5) of the required readings derived from the EDUC 121 Reader to support your discussion. To sum: Show a total of 5 supportive citations derived from 5 Different Academic Sources (Chapters/ Articles) found inside the EDUC 121 Reader and connect these directly with 5 quotes from Adichie’s TedTalk for a total of 10 APA Citations.
*REMEMBER: Your reference page must contain and lead with the name Adichie!!!! (Not ‘TED’ Names Matter?)
NOTE- Treat Adichie’s words exactly the same as direct quotations or paraphrased quotes found in print. Make sure to treat Adichie no differently from an author of a book or an article. The only difference is that you will use a time stamp instead of a page number at the end of your quoted material. A time stamp is the following: (MINUTES:SECONDS).
For example, Adichie (2009) stated “Direct quote that she said from the TedTalk” (11:09). This time stamp reflects the time she said what you are quoting.
To recap: Connect FIVE (5) quotes stated from Adichie with FIVE (5) supportive citations found from FIVE (5) DIFFERENT articles/chapters listed inside the EDUC 121 Reader to equal (10) citations total. Try to use sources that explore the challenges inherent within Race and Racism. For example, use either the African American, Native American, [email protected] American and/or Asian American community. And, if you like, you may use other articles inside the course reader we have not reviewed yet to make your point. You may choose more than one culture to strengthen your thesis but focus on RACE and RACISM.
Note: Let Adichie’s thesis points lead your paper. You may consider some of these topics as you evaluate: the pros/cons of cultural authenticity or insider/outsider perspectives, the evolution of better representation of said culture in children’s books, the overriding “arch” of specific cultural themes, the application of critical literacy as a tool for social justice. “Through story, we can share the hopes and dreams, triumphs and tragedies, accomplishments and disappointments that signal our commonalities as humans while also allowing a view of our uniqueness and cultural pride” (Collier, 2000, p. 241).
IMPORTANT: (If you choose to paraphrase something that Adichie said, take care to remember to follow the extra APA step discussed in class to ‘bookend’ the paraphrased material by both introducing the name of the author and designating the end of the paraphrased material by a page number – in this case – a time stamp as it is a VIDEO. This way, the reader is clear when YOUR voice enters, and when the authors voice ends.)
You are to have TEN (10) in-text quotes Total inside your essay: FIVE (5) from the EDUC 121 Reader and Five (5) from Adichie = 10 Total. Properly format your citations from the APA 7th Edition. A Reference APA formatted page is required along with a Cover Page.

Case 1

Margaret Errington, a corporate attorney for a San Francisco department store chain, was responsible for negotiating leases for their outlets abroad.  Because she had been particularly successful in similar negotiations in Europe, she was looking forward to securing attractive leasing agreements from a shopping mall developer in Osaka, Japan.  She was especially optimistic because of her successful telephone communications with her counterparts in Japan.  But when she arrived with her two assistants, John Gresham and Mel Watt, she was told by her Japanese hosts how surprised they were that she should come to negotiate in person.  Margaret was usually not included in the after-hours socializing, and frequently the Japanese negotiators would direct their questions to John or Mel rather than to Margaret.

Where did Margaret go wrong?

How could you help the company better understand this cross-cultural problem?

Use intercultural theories to explain it and support your discussion.

What would be your advice to Margaret?

Case 2

Bob Tunis, marketing vice president for a Seattle-based lumber company, was making a sales presentation to a plywood wholesaler in Tokyo.  Bob had just proposed what he considered to be a fair price for a large shipment of first-quality plywood.  Much to his amazement, the three Japanese executives did not respond immediately, but rather sat across the table with their hands folded and their eyes cast downward, saying nothing.  Fifteen second passed, then 30, and still no response.  Finally, Bob became so exasperated that he said with a good deal of irritation in his voice, “Would you like for me to repeat the offer?” From that point onward the talks were stalled and Bob never did successfully negotiate a contract for plywood.

Where did Bob go wrong?

How could you help the company better understand this cross-cultural problem?
