Research Project: Students will write a research paper on a topic

Research Project:
Students will write a research paper on a topic of their choice involving drug policy and the criminal justice system. While the writing assignments assess a student’s understanding of course material, the research project helps students learn by analyzing a wide array of information about a specific issue. Several issues are appropriate topics for the research project. However, the paper must discuss the effectiveness of drug policy in some way.
Dr. Johnson will discuss best practices and strategies for the project throughout the semester. The projects should integrate as much relevant material as possible, but the primary sources for these papers must be scholarly books and journal articles. The projects should use at least ten academic sources, not including the assigned class readings. The body of the paper should be a minimum of two thousand words, which is approximately seven double-spaced pages using the size 12 Times New Roman font. Projects must follow a recognized writing and citation style (APA, MLA, CMS). Failure to properly cite sources will lead to a substantial loss of points and possibly failure of the assignment.
