Examining the SAP SE share prices in the last 5 years we can state that investing in them can have a great return value. At the beginning of the period, we are looking at the share price that was $87,84 and through many sharp short-term movements has gone up to $146,24. The Current value on return on investment is around 12,70%. Overall, in this period we can see a trend of gradual uprise. The highest value of the share – 165,41 was reached in August 2020 due to the company’s growth because of their successful cloud computing services. This was an increase of almost 50% compared to March 2020 when the price of the share fell down to $110,50 caused by the global economic crisis from the covid-19 pandemic. After its peak in August, the company had lower earnings in Q3 of 2020 which led to another decrease of the shares with 35% down to $106,83.(Keown, n.d.)

In 2021 the company has slowly begun to recover from the crisis. The main reason for this is the switch that Google made – they will no longer use the Oracle software for their finances. “It will instead switch to SAP”, according to the report. SAP shares have jumped 4.2% on the NYSE in response.”(SAP Jumps 4.2% as Google to Switch to Its Financial Software from Oracle | Seeking Alpha, n.d.)

In October 2020, revenue fell by 4%, 6.54 billion euros, and fixed their earnings per share to 1.70 euros. SAP wants to transit to cloud solutions and expects the revenue to be around 8 billion by 2020. In early November SAP share price increased by 10%. SAP SE expects that the cloud growth will become 22 billion euros by 2025.

Reasons for price change

Another key movement that we can see throughout the last five years is the drastic fall from 123$ in September 2018 to $ 99,95. The 18,73% downfall was caused by the general increase in tax rate at the end of 2018 that was implemented after the arrest of Huawei’s chief financial officer. (SAP Integrated Report 2018, n.d., p. 12)

In 2019 the price gradually grew to a new peak for that time of 136,80 proving to be very strong and having a great ROI. Unfortunately, this was followed by another decrease to $117,87 in September 2019, because at that time the USA had some complicated relationships with China which had a detrimental effect on Sapäs business in Asia.(SAP Integrated Report, n.d., p. 12)

Comparison with one similar business

Now I am going to compare SAP SE with VMware. SAP’s open is 116.72 , its high – 119.08, low – 115.22, its P/E ratio is 23.80, dividend yield is 1.61%, its CDP score is A. Whereas, with VMware its open is 117.10, its high is 123.13, its low is 117.07, its P/E ratio is 25.45 and we do not have information for its dividend yield, its CDP score is A. VMware, Inc. The purpose of this assignment is to create a future trends assessment and recommendations for a client. Scenario 

Congratulations! You have been promoted to senior marketing analyst at your marketing firm, Destiny Marketing. Your firm has been hired once again by the client company of your selected product/service.  

Your boss, Tiffany Morrow, tells you the client has requested a marketing assessment to answer this intriguing question: “Is our product well positioned for the future?” The company is particularly interested in recommendations regarding future customers and the customer experience in terms of digital technology. 

Your client recently learned that Generation Z is already in the workforce, while the oldest members of Generation Alpha is five years away from that first part time job. It was a wake-up call in terms of who is the customer and what type of experiences the company needs to be offering those future customers.   

You already have knowledge in the areas of consumer behavior and product positioning, so this assignment is perfect for you. You just need to do some reading about future trends.  

Ms. Morrow recently read a book she strongly suggests as a research guide for this assignment. The book, Marketing 5.0: Technology for Humanity (Kotler et al., 2021), is available to you online.
