Please provide a 2-3 paragraph, APA 7th ed response to the following:
According to the National Associations of Nurse Practitioners (AANP, 2021) full practice authority is defined as the ability of nurse practitioners (NPs) to prescribe medications, assess and diagnose patients, order and explain diagnostic tests, and manage patients treatment plans under the authority of the state board of nursing. There are many states that do not allow NPs to practice without a physician that defines the practices and procedures a NP is allowed to perform independently (National Council of State Legislature, 2021). Currently there are only 22 states in the country that have allowed full practice authority for NPs (Peterson, 2017).
Peterson (2017) wrote an article about the barriers to healthcare that related to NPs specifically. A major point Peterson (2017) made is the fact that allowing NPs to practice as independent providers could potentially lead to a more efficient, cost effective healthcare industry. Another point Peterson (2017) makes is the restrictions placed on NPs negatively affects the community as well. There are NPs that are willing and available to provide to the communities but governing agencies are not allowing NPs full practice authority (Peterson, 2017).
In the state of Georgia there are barriers to practice as well. NPs are not recognized as primary care providers independently. A NP in Georgia must have a supervising physician that outlines through written protocol medications the NP is allowed to prescribe as well as what procedure can be delegated to the NP and what procedures require consultation of the physician (National Council of State Legislature, 2021).
NPs are not trying to increase the scope of practice but just be allowed to practice to the fullest extent of the licensure (Peterson, 2017). NPs should be allowed full practice authority in all states. Not only would this increase the availability of providers in the community, it has shown to decrease healthcare costs in the states that do utilize full practice authority for NPs (Peterson, 2017). There have been many states that have hired lobbyists to bring attention to the issues related to barriers of NPs scope of practice to legislatures (Peterson, 2017). There may be a day where all states recognize full practice authority of all NPs.

Using the knowledge and skills you learned in this course, describe how you would go about using scientific methods to evaluate the effectiveness of that program, Make sure you describe the goals of your program and how you would design an outcomes evaluation where you collect and analyze data to evaluate whether the program is achieving its intended objectives or goals.[supanova_question]
