Introduction

In the transportation business, efficiency in moving products is crucial. The continuity of technical progress and management principles can improve the movement of loads, speed of delivery, quality of services, costs of operations, the usage of transportation facilities and saving of energy. If there is no transportation, the business in logistics is impossible to organize, in this case, the role of transportation is significant in running the business in logistics. This assignment will help you to understand the importance and role of different modes of transportation to facilitate trade and to promote economic growth in Oman and beyond.

Part 1. Knowledge and understanding

Read the information below to helping you on building your knowledge in responding to the assessment questions provided.

In Freight service transportation, Transportation providers are required to meet the service requests of their numerous shippers. Service requests can be common requests about delivery time and may vary all the way to specific/customized requests. Consider that costs of transporting products determine the service required. The most common service characteristic for freight transport are: Transit time, Reliability, Accessibility, Capability and Security.

Transportation Passenger on the other hand, is a market composed of suppliers of transport services and users of these services. A well-functioning transport market should allow transport supply to meet the specific service demand of transport users so that transport needs for mobility are satisfied. At most passenger transport requires the following service components to ensure that users are happy: Destination – Schedules and speed – Costs – Equipment and attention – Terminals – Complaints and experience (Silva, 2019).
