Leadership Principles: The Anatomy of Care Simulation

Effective leadership can be difficult within busy organizations like medical institutions in departments such as the emergency room (ER). High service and product demand under strict timeframes have proven to be significant issues in the adequate management and running of particular operations for some departmental leaders in medical institutions (Whiteside, 2016). With reference to Janice, a nurse in charge, there are specific leadership qualities she portrays that make her an effective leader. As the nurse in charge, Janice has the task of ascertaining the needs of all patients are met. Besides, she has to ensure that the hospital environment promotes both patients’ and staff safety at all times. Some of the apparent leadership principles displayed by Janice include high levels of accountability and resilience in solving pressing organizational issues.

One leadership quality that Janice displays is high levels of accountability. As the nurse in-charge, Janice knows what is demanded of her and tries to do everything in her power to perform as expected. Even though she is sometimes overwhelmed by the demands attached to her organizational role, Janice devices effective strategies that reduce her workload. For instance, she assigns other nurses to help in attending to the needs of some of her patients. Another leadership quality illustrated by Janice is the ability to speak up and confront issues pressing organizational issues head-on. When she notices an impending health hazard linked to the medical facility, she pushes to establish an effective solution to the problem using the right organizational channels. Janice is not afraid to speak her mind and share her ideas that would resolve the latent health hazard in the hospital.

In real-world situations, high accountability levels and resilience associated with being outspoken are vital leadership principles that individuals ought to assimilate. According to Bell & Harrison (2018), having some sense of responsibility often makes an individual strong and dependable by others in the community. Besides, this particular principle makes one an eligible candidate for leadership roles in society. On the other hand, being outspoken and resilient helps one to communicate with others without fear of expressing individual ideas persuasively. Society mandates that leaders to be confident and persistent in ensuring that problems faced within an organization are ideally solved (Duckworth, 2015). Adequate communication skills often enhance one’s ability to speak out and pressure relevant organizational heads to address emerging issues.

In conclusion, being a leader is not an easy task, as many presume it to be. There is often a lot of responsibility attached to specific leadership roles, which mandate a lot of sacrifice and devotion from an individual. To be an effective leader, one has to assimilate practical leadership skills and principles progressively. Even though Janice does portray some shortcomings in her role as the nurse in-charge, she does showcase some admirable leadership qualities that make her a good leader. Her high sense of responsibility and effective communication helps her perform her duties as a leader within the busy hospital environment.
