This week you will debate with your peers, providing an opportunity to present opposing views, opinions, and research on a topic. Students will be divided up into two groups – Pro versus Con groups. If your last name begins with a letter from A to K, you will be in the Pro group and will post in favor of the prompt. If your last name begins with a letter from L to Z, you will be in the Con group and will post as opposed to the prompt.

The prompt is: “Currently healthcare informatics mostly rely on data science for presenting better outcomes. And so, existing healthcare professionals are not sufficiently qualified, and lack the required knowledge to manage the 3 V challenges – volume, velocity, and variety – of big data” (Pramanik et al., 2020, section 7).
Taking your opposing or in favor view, initial posts should address the topic, what skills are needed to integrate and use analytic systems, the procedures needed to manage health information systems, what to seek for a positive return on investment (ROI), and what you learned from the article. Use competing facts, figures and assumptions.
Your initial posting should be 250-500 words and must be submitted by Thursday, midnight (MT), of this week. By Sunday at midnight (MT), respond to two or more of your classmates’ initial posts in one of the following ways:
Build on something interesting or provocative that your classmate wrote.
Explain why and how you see things differently.
Ask a probing or clarifying question.
Share your understanding of your classmate’s posting in your words.
Offer and support an opinion with peer-reviewed sources or industry best practices.
Expand on your classmate’s posting by providing constructive feedback.
Keep in mind that you’re expected to engage critically and not editorially

Big data analytic technologies have shown to hold the answers to enhance different areas of care. Medical imaging, chronic disease management, population health, and precision medicine are different fields that have shown promise from data analytic technologies (Kent, 2020). Utilizing big data analytic technologies can increase the efficiency of care, reduce administrative burdens, and accelerate disease diagnosis (Kent, 2020). These programs use different algorithms and software to interpret data in an effort to improve the quality of care for patients, with the data being used many believe this will dissipate the knowledge and expertise that medical professionals currently hold.
However, to interpret this data and to insert the data into the different algorithms and software programs, the knowledge must come from somewhere, it is coming from the medical professionals (Ginsburg, 2018. Over time, it is likely we will start to experience more telehealth options and an evolving healthcare system. One thing that will never change is the training and education our medical professionals must complete before entering the medical field. While technology and data are going to be essential in the improvement of medial care, inevitably the care we receive will still rely heavily on the knowledge and expertise of our medical professionals who are either overlooking our telehealth reports, medical history, or providing hands on care.
Medical professionals will typically never actually analyze the data reported from the big data analytic technologies, there are programs that analyze the data and present reports for the medical staff to understand and interpret. Over 85% of organizations who have invested in data analytic systems have shown positive ROI (Bees, 2019). The ROI for these investments are not only monetary, the more important returns hospitals are seeing are based on improved quality of care, improved efficiency of care, and reduced medical costs for patients.

Option #2: Online Patient Education
Research a large health system that offers patient education online (i.e., the Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins, or Mayo). Then prepare a presentation in PowerPoint, Prezi (Links to an external site.), or another online tool that describes what education content is available for patients. Focus in on three areas for chronic illnesses such as asthma, COPD, smoking cessation, or obesity. As a patient, would you find the information useful? Why or why not? Did you find the information easy to understand? What changes would you propose for the usability and effectiveness of the website?
Your presentation should include the following:
Eight to ten slides, not including the cover and reference slide.
Support your presentation with a minimum of three sources in addition to the course text. Remember, you must support your thinking/opinions and prior knowledge with references; all facts must be supported, and in-text citations used throughout the assignment must be included in an APA-formatted reference list.[supanova_question]

This week you identified the various roles within healthcare information management. For your discussion this week, investigate a career search on an organization (LinkedIn, Indeed, Zip Recruiter, Monster, etc.). Locate a position posting for either a Chief Information Officer or a Chief Technology Officer.
In your initial post
Identify the agency you searched, the location and additional position requirements.
What are the education requirements?
Are there requirements for years of experience?
What is the position salary?
If you were the hiring manager, what is a significant question you would ask a CIO or CTO candidate? Why is this question significant to your organization’s HIM/HIT operations?
Discuss who would be your ideal candidate.[supanova_question]

Email Hack Results in Health Data Breach in NJ Lab
Similar to the article we all read, a specialized diagnostic testing lab in NJ that provides testing for patients across the country was effected by an employees email being hacked. The forensic investigation showed that on June 28th 2021 one or more email accounts accessed between February 2, 2021 and April 2, 2021 contained patients personal/protected identifying health information. It is said that the company, A2Z Diagnostics, LLC has no evidence suggesting data has been misused. Not all patients were affected, but those who were began receiving notifications shortly after July 28th. For those while SSN were compromised, A2Z is allowing them to set up credit monitoring services provided by the lab. It is encouraged for patients involved to monitor their insurance statements for any transactions that for care that was not actually received. They have also set up a response line that patients can call to ask any questions they may have. Actions taken to help an incident like this from occurring again in the future are improvements to the technical safeguards such as enhancement of the multi-factor authentication software. To best be prepared for when incidents do occur, organizations should always have a backup plan, such as switching to pen and paper until better security measures are in place, or have a computer system that is not connected to any outside third party systems, but can easily allow for transfer of information when the original system is safe to use again. HIPAA regulations were broken by the situation, and it is not the first incident that has occurred. This is one among several reasons why some smaller healthcare facilities are hesitant to implement electronic medical records.

Option #2: Emerging Technologies and Their Uses in Healthcare – Paper
Review the Privacy and Security (Links to an external site.) page on the HealthIT.gov website.
Choose at least four of the reading or video options focused on securing patient information using mobile devices. Then write a paper that meets or exceeds the following requirements:
Read or watch the chosen content.
Evaluate the value of these devices in your healthcare setting.
Analyze how you would protect such technology and the information that it contains, using this week’s reading and your own research.
Evaluate the importance of these products to healthcare delivery and the management of chronic diseases such as asthma and diabetes.
Your paper should include the following:
Three to four pages, not including the title and reference pages.
Support your paper with a minimum of four sources in addition to the course text. Remember, you must support your thinking/opinions and prior knowledge with references; all facts must be supported, and in-text citations used throughout the assignment must be included in an APA-7formatted reference list..
Format your citations and references according to the CSU Global Writing Center (Links to an external site.).
