For this Team Service Project, my team and I chose to observe the Human-Machine Systems in Publix Deli. After conducting a careful analysis of several companies, we decided to observe the Public Deli because it is one of the biggest grocery stores in Florida. Observing one of the leading grocery stores would offer us the opportunity to observe the Human-Machine Systems and how they operate in practice. Also, we agreed to choose the Publix Deli because it has a lot of professional workers who operate the Human-Machine Systems. The professionals would take us through the process of how the Human-Machine Systems worked, and we would have the opportunity to learn even more by asking them several questions. The professionals work with meat slicers and grinders, and band saws which help them improve service delivery.

We learned from the professional workers in Publix Deli that the Human-Machine Systems were essential because they increased the productivity rate, which would have been lower if humans did all the manual work. As a result of the high production rates, Publix Deli now operates in more than ten states in the United States. Using the machines has also ensured the safety of the workers. According to the professionals, very few accidents have been recorded since the Human Machine systems were installed. This is because the workers have been trained on how to run the machines safely.

Throughout the project, we had only one choice for the Human Machine System, and therefore, there was no need to change the HMS in the course of the project. We decided to focus on the slicer as we conducted the project. We chose the slicer because of its operability. Hence, we were interested in knowing its operating procedures and how it was handled. The process was straightforward, and together with my team, we decided that the method we used in selecting the HMS was effective. Therefore, I would recommend that future students choose an HMS by looking at how it functions, integrates, and vulnerability.[supanova_question]
