Instructions:
For this assignment, select one New York State English language arts standard appropriate for the field experience class based on collaboration with the mentor teacher. Create two assessments that incorporate different forms of creative arts (art, music, theater, or dance), including the following:
One formative assessment tool to assess young children’s reading skills and possible misconceptions.
One formative assessment to promote phonics as a part of the reading process.
*** I had you do this assignment before and it was completely wrong. You did not create any assessments. You only explained what assessments are. You need to CREATE 2 assessments, NOT explain what assessments are. And you did not use a New York State English language arts standard like I said to in the directions. I am also attaching the previous assignment you completed for me so you know what NOT to do. ***
Rubric:
– The formative assessment tool innovatively assesses young children’s reading skills and possible misconceptions.
– The formative assessment promoting phonics as part of the reading process is well crafted.
– The content is well organized and logical. There is a sequential progression of ideas related to each other. The content is presented as a cohesive unit; provides the audience with a clear sense of the main idea.
– Submission is virtually free of mechanical errors. Word choice reflects well-developed use of practice and content-related language. Sentence structures are varied and engaging.[supanova_question]

About Looking
*Please note that each of your About Looking Papers are due at the start of your regular class session on the day they are due.
There are four written assignments entitled About Looking due throughout the semester. For each written assignment you are required to look at a photography book, artist film/video, artist website or exhibition and write a minimum one full page (12 point type every other line) personal response to the work. The images you include are in addition to the one full page you write. You may focus on one image in a series, respond to the body of work as a whole, or compare and contrast the work of two different photographers. While biographical details can be very enlightening, I do not want you to only provide biographical details of the artist’s life. I am interested in your personal yet considered response to the artist’s work. I have provided you with examples of excellent student response papers. Please refer to these.
If this is your first photography class, please use the Artist List I have provided for you to find a photographer to write about. If you would like to write about the work of a photographer who is not on the Artist List, show me the work of the photographer you would like to write about before you write your paper.
You must cite at least three separate sources (book, magazine article, website, video) using Chicago-Style Citation. Include the title of the book, the ISBN number of the book, the full title of the website or YouTube links you have used for your research.
If you feel stuck, start with a detailed description of exactly what you are seeing. This is a good way to begin considering a work of art. Consider formal elements such as positive & negative space, symmetrical & asymmetrical balance, line, shape, shape, value and texture and quality of light and how these choices work in service to the ideas and obsessions that drive the artist’s creative work.
In addition to your informed opinion of the work, include the artist’s point of view. Find a quotation. What motivated the photographer to make their work? Why do they think their work is meaningful? Does your reading of the work and theirs align? If no, why not?
Some questions to consider when writing your response papers:
You may choose to explore one question and not more than three as these are searching questions and the goal is to dive deep rather than stay on the surface.
What is your initial response to the work and why do you think you are responding in this way?
What is the subject matter of the work?
Is this photographer photographing subject matter that is familiar or unfamiliar to them?
Is the explicit subject matter the same as the implicit subject?
What is the artist trying to accomplish by creating this work?
Did the artist fulfill their goal?
What is the bias of this work?
If historical, how was the work appreciated in its’ time? How is the work understood now?
Does this artist have any blind spots in relation to their subject? If so, what are they?[supanova_question]
