(Yes, you’ll start with “Dear….. whomever”)
In your first paragraph, write a little about the composer and why you chose that composer to write to them about. What is it about that composer that you find interesting? Why did you choose this particular piece of music? What is it about that piece of music that makes you want to convince your friend or family member to listen to it?
In your second paragraph, describe the piece of music. You can write about instruments, sounds, techniques, tempo, dynamics, anything that would give your reader enough details about the piece so that they could have some idea of what they would be hearing when they get the chance to listen to it.
In your third paragraph, tell them why you think *they* would like it – do they like other music like this? Do they have an open mind when it comes to new sounds? Do they like other genres of contemporary art? (In other words, why did you choose this person to write to?)
If you want to, you can actually send this letter/email to the person! Don’t forget to include the link to the recording if you do. And if they listen and write back, please let me know![supanova_question]

For your assignment this week, please choose ONE song that you like and then analyze it in terms of the elements of music discussed in the interactive video for this week. You should choose a song that incorporates as many of the elements of music as possible, so it might not be wise to choose a hip-hop song with just rapping and beats, for example. Choose a song uses EVERY one of the elements (this shouldn’t be hard…most songs do).
Basically you’ll define each of the elements in your own words, and then analyze your chosen song in terms of those elements. Use this template for your work!
a) TIMBRE
Define “Timbre” in your own words
Describe how your song choice exhibits different timbres
b) CONSONANCE/DISSONANCE

c) RHYTHM
