Capital Punishment in Dead Man Walking
“This is not a nice man … innocent is not a word that suits him in any way,” says Brian Webster when speaking of Matthew Poncelet, the man on death row in the movie Dead Man Walking. Many people feel that the death penalty is immoral and it should not be used; however I feel completely opposite. I believe that capital punishment is a fair sentence for a murderer to receive. In the movie Dead Man Walking, the main character Matthew Poncelet, is on death row waiting for the lethal injection that will soon put him to death for good.
Dead Man Walking shows the audience what life is like for a man on death row, who was sentenced for the murder of two young adults. I feel that the movie does not support the death penalty and it tries to show that a person can be redeemed for his actions and therefore should not be put to death. “The film definitely has its opinion on the death penalty, it is against it” (Williams). Even though I support the death penalty, I still feel that the movie accurately described what life on death row was like for Matthew Poncelet. At the beginning of the movie Matthew Poncelet had no respect …[supanova_question]

Capital Punishment

Justice can not be served until the debate on capital punishment is resolved and all states have come to an agreement that the death penalty is the best way to stop crime completely. “The bottom line is, one method of execution is just as brutal as the next,” says Mr. Breedlove of the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty. Webster’s Dictionary New Riverside Desk Dictionary II Edition, defines execution as the act of putting someone to death lawfully. So if Breedlove’s words hold to be true, then what he believes is that someone going out a killing someone else is barbaric. In a sense he is saying that one way of killing is just as bad as any other. So if he finds this to be such a barbaric action why doesn’t he do anything about it? Many people including people like Breedlove are only thinking of the criminal in this type of situation, yet do they ever stop to think about the families of these murder victims. The pain, the anguish, and the immense suffering these loved ones go through because of the actions of these merciless criminals. If you can, d…[supanova_question]

Whenever the word “death penalty” comes up, extremists from both sides of the spectrum begin to wildly express their opinions. One side says deterrence, the other side says there’s a potential of executing an innocent man. One says justice, retribution, and punishment; the other side says execution is murder. However, all arguments aside, the best way and the only way to truly make a rational decision about capital punishment is to examine the purpose of our criminal justice system. Once the purpose of the criminal justice system is established, one must find out the purpose of capital punishment. This paper will show that the purpose of capital punishment is consistent with and embodies the purpose of the criminal justice system. Then, this paper will determine whether or not the present form of the death penalty is fulfilling its purpose, and what could be changed to make the death penalty more efficient and effective.

The first question that must be faced is, “What is the purpose of the criminal justice system and does the death penalty help to fulfill that purpose?” In The Law, Frederic Bastiat says that humans have inalienable rights that existed outside of and before government. These rights are life, liberty, and property. He contends that the only legitimate purpose of government is to protect these rights. When one person inflicts on another’s rights or takes advantage of another person, he is plundering. Bastiat asks, “When, then, does pl…[supanova_question]

Capital punishment is also known as death penalty and it is the execution of an individual in punishment of a crime. The word “capital” comes from Latin caput meaning head. Therefore the meaning of capital punishment, which can translate to decapitation.

Decapitation was the preferred way of execution for long time. Other common ways of execution in Old America were hangings, burning, pressing, breaking on wheels and firing squads. Now a day lethal injection and electrocution are the choices for execution.

The question is, when is this individual under 18 liable for his/her actions? Are kids under 18 considered full-grown adults? I think not. On this essay I will list the facts that establish
juveniles and kids as underdeveloped adults. Based on this condition, we as a society should not hold them up to the standards of adults. Yes they can still be reprimanded and punished for their crimes, but not executed.

The American Society claims that our children have a very special place in life. Are we not, then supposed to defend them and make sure that their place is …[supanova_question]
