TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia’s state-owned passenger ferry operator, PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry, announced that 28 ferry ports across Indonesia have implemented online ticket purchasing to combat scalping practices. The company has also developed a “Say No to Scalpers” program to protect its service users from scalping practices.

“ASDP is progressively implementing online ticket reservations at its branches through the app and website. Currently, 28 ports are accepting online ticket reservations,” ASDP corporate secretary Shelvy Arifin said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday, July 8.

The 28 ports are Merak, Bakauheni, Ketapang, Gilimanuk, Ajibata, Ambarita, Anchor, Sape, Labuan Bajo, Selamat, Padangbai, Jepara, Karimun Jawa, Ujung, Kamal, Kayangan, Pototano, Tanjung Kalian, Pagimana, Gorontalo, Galala, Hunimua, Waipirit, Namlea, Batulicin, Tanjung Serdang, Bajoe and Kolaka.

Shelvy said that ASDP is constantly engaged in socializing the online purchase of ferry tickets through Ferizy. She said this is important because it offers many benefits to service users, including faster service and minimizing queues at ports.

“The digitization of ferry ticket purchases is a demonstration of ASDP’s commitment to digital transformation over the past five years to provide convenience to service users,” she said.

Online ticket reservations will also be improved, Shelvy said. The company has also developed a “Say No to Brokers” program to protect service users from scalping practices.

“Many service users have reported paying large amounts of money to scalpers because their boarding pass could not be used to enter the port. This is certainly an issue we will be addressing,” said Shelvy.

To that end, ASDP has increased patrols at ports and implemented a geo-fencing system that ensures tickets can only be purchased through official counters and the Ferizy app. Shelvy stated that only passengers with official tickets can enter the port area, thanks to strict filters at entry points.

Currently, there are no ticket sales at the port. Ferry tickets can be reserved up to 60 days before departure through the Ferizy app.
