Explanatory. Identify a policy problem or issue. Provide an analysis that EXPLAINS why we observe the policy outcomes that we do. What are the causes? What are the forces that explain why the policy operates the way it does. 2. Advocacy. Identify a problem and a few realistic potential solutions and then pick one and make a case for why it is the best or should be the first thing policymakers do. For example, the Social Security trust fund is quickly running out of money. There are only about 2-4 serious ways to address this problem. Which one shows the most promise and has a chance of actually being passed by Congress?  Notes1. Explanatory – explain to us the politics. Think back to the politics of public policy process that explains why we have the policies in place that we have – what are the kind of policy traps think back to weaver -weaver is a great model in our study of welfare policy because we aver gives he’s explaining but why do we have the wealth mix of why does the AFDC look the way it does – why can’t we change it: well here are the reasons why it’s hard to change it – and here’s how indecent stains , for example, it was changed that’s another part of his book but your analysis might be just more “why are we where we are” , what’s one of the big factors in the public opinion is it budget constraints, is it vested interest like put to work some of those political concepts that we have early. 2. Advocacy – the other style paper is a kind of advocacy paper – you are trying to promote a position saying we should do X – here’s the existing policy – here’s how and why it should change – you also have to explain why alternatives – think of back to economists and opportunity costs, why alternatives are not going to you know hard better, why your proposal is better than some other alternatives Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with questions.[supanova_question]

Assignment: Excel Dashboards

For this assignment, you will work in groups of 2 (or you can choose to work alone) to create four dashboards using Excel.

Using the Module 8 Assignment workbook, create four different dashboards in Excel that show UniSTORE performance. The Module 8 Assignment workbook contains a subset of all of the UniSTORE transactions from 2017 to 2019. Each dashboard should focus on a different area/view of UniSTORE performance and each on a different worksheet. You may use any of the tools learned in Weeks 1 to 8. Ensure that each dashboard can be easily filtered by multiple criteria (e.g. Province, Class, Store) and that you use different criteria in each dashboard. Please note the dashboards don’t need to include all the data.

Your group will also need to submit an executive report summary with the following criteria:

Maximum four-page report summary that provides a description of each dashboard.

An explanation of the steps taken to create the dashboards, the visualizations used, and the insights that each dashboard provides.

Fully detailed logic and reasoning for each dashboard.[supanova_question]

5a. Medieval times and technology?

The text says that the Romanesque and Early Catholicism periods where not really all that terrible.  It is true that during this time villages and monasteries were formed as educational centers. It is suggested that for practical purposes they let the subject called art fall by the wayside. Here are a couple images that show the difference between Greek sculpture from 500 BC, and Romanesque art work 1000 years later in the 9th century AD.  The Romanesque/Medieval does not measure up to the earlier work, as it lacks proportional and realistic relationships developed by the Greeks.

Below- Polykleitos sculpture of the “Spear Bearer”. Greek. 500 BC, a classical sculpture from the Golden Age of Greece.

A

ge of Greece.

Below is the upper half of the Tympanum of the “Last Judgement”, church entrance at Sainte Foy de Conques. 9th century AD . These sculptures were planned to teach the illiterate population attending church the fate of behaving and misbehaving. Right and wrong, like the ancient texts of the Near East. This also establish the phrase of being on the right hand of God and later ” a right hand man (Person), a phrase used in business and politics. By comparison to the one above – They are crude,  out of proportion and scale.

Detail from the lower half of the Tympanum of the “Last Judgement”, church entrance at Sainte Foy de Conques. 9th century AD Left side represents Heaven, the right side represents being cast into Hell. Note that Jaws of hell are represented by a dragon. More details follow.

Detail of the Tympanum of the “Last Judgement”, church entrance at Sainte Foy de Conques. Hell.  Various devils and snakes. In ancient time represented fertility and success in agriculture. Here they are introduced as evil characters.

Tympanum of the “Last Judgement”, church entrance at Autun France. On the left people go to Heaven, on the right they are sent to Hell. At the bottom you can see the souls/people being divided between Heaven and Hell.

Tympanum of the “Last Judgement”, church entrance at Autun France.  Detail of the “Weighing of the Souls”. You can see the Angels on the left and the Devils on the right. The book says the little devil on the right is trying to weigh his side down by jumping in the balance so the soul being judged goes to his side – Hell.  The jaws or Hell reappear on the far right. The long limbs remind me of the characters in Nightmare Before Christmas.

During the Dark Ages the art of the Romanesque period is some of my favorite as Western civilization struggles to move out of the Medieval period. Not because the art work is sophisticated and well done but because they are the most tortured and frightening images and ideas filtered through religion we see it this survey class. These are images that conjure nightmares and the source of our20th century horror movies. Tim Burton surely used some of this imagery in “The Nightmare Before Christmas” animation (“weighing of the souls”). Anyway by now one can see that the trends of art history have been woven by script writers into popular movies’ such as – “Indiana Jones”, the “Mummy”, Thor and and many more. Art history has been a great resource for cinema in the 20th and 21st century’s. The architectural elements are significant in this period as the precursors to Gothic Art.

There will be two assignments related to the thousands of years of art history the text takes you through in this module.

Because this is a survey course cinema/movies should be addressed as well. And for me the Medieval Period loans itself to horror movies which seem to be a popular genera in our time and always feature “Good and Evil” or from the pictures “Heaven/Hell” or “God /Devil”.

Assignment 1

I want you to name 2 Horror movies that you felt where/are well done. Name each movie and include the graphics advertising the movie and pictures of the “good and evil ” characters, these do not have to be people- the “Blob” or “Godzilla” can be characters.  Then in a sentence or two tell my why this is a movie you appreciate. So to go over this- You can submit a picture of the Movie poster (advertisement) or movie title of you choice, then submit a picture of the Hero and villain, or protagonist and antagonist, or good and evil characters. Since I mentioned the animation – Nightmare before Christmas, I will allow that they need not be the most horrific movies ever made. Choose movies you feel strongly about. Then repeat the process for your second movie choice. You can draw the characters, collage them of download pictures from the internet.[supanova_question]
