CRIM1100 Extra credit presentation
Create a presentation for what 21st century corrections should look like. Identify how your solution responds to the challenges you have learned about and how it builds on the past. Share with the class and comment on two of your peers’ videos. This does not have to be lengthy (I’d say 10 slides maximum and recording no longer than 10 minutes).
Reflect on your readings for this module.
Imagine what a 21st century form of incarceration might look like.Think about the roles and expectations of prisoners (male and female), correctional officers, and the goals for the institution (parole, reintegration with society).
How does your institution respond to the history and challenges of U.S. prisons?
Support your ideas with evidence from the textbook.
Create a presentation using PowerPoint or Google Slides.
Choose an organized way to utilize multimedia in your presentation to support your ideas.
Record your presentation using Panopto.
Share a link to your presentation in the discussion post.

PART II Short-Answer Questions (5 pts for each)
1. According to the liquidity preference framework, what happens to the interest rate when there is an increase in the money supply growth during a business cycle recession. (Hint: use the supply and demand curve of money to explain)
2. Based on the formula of money multiplier, explain how each of the following can affect the money supply: (a) the central bank; (b) banks; and (c) depositors.
3. Why the velocity of money is not constant? Explain by both the liquidity preference theory and the portfolio theory of money demand
PART III Mathematical Questions (25 pts)
1. Assuming that the yield curve of today is 3%, 4%, 5%, 6% and 7% for 1-year, 2-year, 3-year, 4-year and 5-year bond, respectively. 1) Draw this yield curve and use the expectation theory to explain what will happen to the interest rate on 1-year in the future? 2) Use the expectation theory to calculate the interest rate on the 1-year bond issued in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th year, respectively. (9 pts)
2.
a) If a bank has excess reserves of $10,000 and demand deposit liabilities of $80,000, and if the reserve requirement is 20 percent, then what’s the actual reserves of this bank? (3 pts)
b) If the required reserve ratio is 10 percent, currency in circulation is $400 billion, checkable deposits are $800 billion, and excess reserves total $0.8 billion, then what’s the money supply and the monetary base? (3 pts)
c) Assuming initially that the required reserve ratio = 10%, the currency-deposit ratio = 40%, and the excess reserve ratio = 0, if everything else held constant, what impact does a decrease in the required reserve ratio to 5% have on M1 money multiplier? (3pts)
3. If the interest rate is 7 percent on euro-denominated assets and 5 percent on dollar-denominated assets, and if the dollar is expected to appreciate at a 4 percent rate. (7 pts)
1) What’s the expected rate of return on dollar-denominated assets for a Frenchman?
2) Does the interest rate parity hold? Where do you think this Frenchman should invest his money?[supanova_question]
