“Due to the increase in aggression and violent crimes in young men, glorification of violence in the media and music should be restricted to suitable age groups, if not eliminated entirely.” My teachers recommendation said this : “Good start, Destiny! For revision, I suggest continuing to refine your argument. Would this restriction be different from the current age restrictions already in place? How so?”

Make sure you cite specific work(s) from the video to use as examples. I’m looking for you to be able to reflect back at the first half of this class and apply the formal elements in the works by these selected artists. Also, try to expand beyond the physical qualities of the works, and apply the formal elements to the artist’s concept.
4) In the “Thinking Back” sections at the end of each chapter, your book talks about “drawing as an innovative media, and “painters of the 20th century challenging traditions in painting.” How does the work of this artist fit into those ideas?
One or two of the above artists might be easier to answer here. But, think beyond the physical qualities of the work, and consider the main concepts of the artists. Are they also conceptually pushing content, or challenging traditions?
5) Compare your answers to questions 2 – 4 with one of the other two artists. Does this other artist use different media? How does she/he fit into the ideas in question 4?

The reading assignment for this week consists of Balko (651-655), Pollan (624-631), Zinczenko (647-656), Freedman (681-721), and Maxfield (641-646). You’ll notice Maxfield and Freedman bring up Pollan’s ideas in the course of their articles to show the ways in which they disagree with him and to refine their own position.
Write a short (300 word) essay which makes reference to at least TWO of the authors above and describes your own approach to the idea of diet and personal responsibility. Also, think about the claims made in the articles in order to make your definition of “personal responsibility” precise. For example, David Zinczenko states, “Then [the mid-1980s] as now, these [fast food restaurants] were the only available options for an American kid to get an affordable meal” (648).
