Topic for Your Research paper:
For this project, you will choose a specific topic to research, analyze, and answer in a formal research paper directly tied to or related to the class for which you are enrolled. You must receive my approval of your topic before proceeding with the research. The research topic must directly relate to the field of Sociology, and specifically address themes of sociological causation and significance. You want your research to be relevant, focused, and manageable in a minimum 10-page research paper. You are encouraged to design your own research using the Research Paper Guidelines under the Research Paper tab in Blackboard.
Main objective:
In this assignment you are to develop a specific research proposal. It is not necessary to use scholarly sources as evidence in the proposal. However, you must explain in detail why you chose the topic, explain in detail the conclusions you feel you will be able to make after completing the research, and make sure you submit the assignment in Blackboard using MS WORD. If you don’t have MSWORD on your computer use a computer in one of the computers in one of the computer labs on campus. This project will take work, so begin early.
Directions:
Approval and Grading: Complete, workable Research Proposals that address satisfactorily all the directions given below and that promise successful outcomes, will be approved and graded; however, incomplete or unsatisfactory proposals will be returned unapproved and graded, and student researchers asked to revise and resubmit as soon as possible and will not earn a grade for the revise and resubmit but necessary for approval of the topic. Research Proposal is worth 2% of your course grade.
Organize your proposal, according to the three sections described below. Address all parts of each section completely. Completeness, persuasiveness, clarity, coherence and correctness of your written presentation will be considered in the grading, so please plan, draft, edit, and proofread before submitting your formal proposal for approval and grading.
Required length is minimum 1 page word processed (MSWORD), double-spaced page; however, your Proposal should be as long as it needs to be to describe your research topic and strategy in some detail and include discussion of all parts of the four topics listed below.

Your goal is to convince your reader that you have a well-defined point of departure for
your research project and a clear sense of direction as you launch into your research in
earnest, supported by substantial, promising exploratory research and serious preliminary
thinking and reading about your topic.
a. What do you need to find out through your research? Provide an organized list of
the important questions raised by your topic, key terms and concepts to be defined
and explained, and relevant inferences and assumptions that you hold about your
topic and that you will open to question and investigation. Your lists of questions and
assumptions should be grouped or organized logically into related categories and
major lines of inquiry relevant to and supportive of your leading Research Question
and Working Hypothesis. Your lists should demonstrate that you have already
conducted thorough and thoughtful exploratory research, reading, and thinking on
your topic—i.e., you know enough about your topic focus now to frame good
questions and recognize major lines of inquiry.

Determining the factors that influence the intention to drink in adolescents is vital to prevent the early onset of alcohol consumption using smartphone-based intervention messages that illustrate the negative consequences of alcohol to cause a negative perception. Previous research has tested the applicability of the TPB to predict alcohol use in adolescents. The TPB’s main premises are that attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control (PBC) are immediate determinants of intentions to enact a particular behavior. Intention to perform such behavior then can directly predict that behavior ( Ajzen, 1991).
TPB has been used in many studies to explain aspects that affect the consumption of alcohol in adolescents. A study used the TPB and attachment theory to create a model to predict the tendencies of underage drinking ( Lac et al., 2013). The study results indicated peer attachment was associated positively with behavioral control and norms toward alcohol. In contrast, maternal affection predicted a negative relationship with attitudes and perceived behavioral control (PBC) towards alcohol. In another study, TPB was used in combination with Readiness to Change based on the Transtheoretical Model to create a model to predict intentions to reduce or stop alcohol consumption in Thai adolescents ( Watakakosol et al.2021). In this study, the findings illustrated that the percieved behavioral control predicted strongly alcohol use followed by attitudes and subjective norms. In the two studies, PBC was demonstrated to be a predictor of alcohol consumption in adolescents.
A study also utilized the TPB to illustrate the gender differences in alcohol consumption in adolescents and their frequency (Kyrrestad et al. 2020). The study’s findings that the intention to drink in both genders were predicted Subjective Norms (SN), while the choice to drink frequently was predicted by SN and attitudes in girls and SN in boys. The findings illustrated PBC is related directly to alcohol use and frequency for girls (Kyrrestad et al. 2020). In a study to investigate the intention to drink alcohol and the drinking of alcohol using the TPB (Zhao et al .2020), The finding of the study illustrated that intentions mediated the other premises of the TPB. Exposure to information on alcohol use leads to a significantly stronger PBC in adolescents. This study showed the role of social systems in predicting the intention to consume alcohol. The findings across the four studies illustrated that PBC had a significant influence on adolescents’ alcohol consumption behavior. The intention to drink was also described as a substantial factor in alcohol consumption across the four studies. The relationship between alcohol consumption and attitudes and subjective norms are varied across the various studies but was found to be less significant than PBC.
The limitation of these studies is that the eventual consequences of alcohol consumptions are not viewed in the long term. Studies have illustrated that the early onset of alcohol consumption leads to more alcohol abuse later and other related problems later in their adolescence. Based on the TPB, the role of personal, social, and environmental factors in alcohol consumption is shown. The intervention for this study based on TPB to address the intention to drink in teenagers when they turn thirteen years. This intervention will focus on non-drinking adolescents who perceive drinking as favorable. The intervention will be a motivation intervention that utilizes personal feedback and a comprehensive discussion of the consequences of long-term alcohol consumption.
